Liverpool head coach Arne Slot praised the contributions from left-wing duo Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz that Mohamed Salah overshadowed. Salah has enjoyed a prolific season with goals and assists alongside other Liverpool attackers who played an equally pivotal role.
While Gakpo has continued his recent incredible goalscoring run of form, Diaz has also made consistent contributions with important goals. The Colombian has also played as a false nine in the absence of natural front options or due to tactics.
Liverpool are at the top of the Premier League and the Champions League due to incredible consistency in their performance. The Reds have won 23 out of 28 games in all competitions, enjoying a well-balanced and dominating football under Slot.

Diaz has scored 12 goals and provided three assists from 25 games in all competitions for the Reds so far. Meanwhile, Gakpo has scored 12 goals and provided four assists for Liverpool from 28 games in all competitions this season.
Speaking to reporters at the pre-match press conference( via Liverpoolfc.com), Slot highlighted the immense contribution of both Gakpo and Diaz for Liverpool. He said:
“I think I’ve said already a few times that I can completely understand how much focus there is on Mo [Salah]’s performance because that is remarkable if a player has so many goals and so many assists. But if you combine the goals of Lucho [Luis Diaz] and Cody when they play as a left winger, they come quite close to the numbers Mo has. Mo’s advantage is that because Federico [Chiesa] is not always available he is playing from the first until the last minute, but I think our left-winger position comes quite close to the numbers Mo has. So, that probably tells you then as well that part of the success is definitely the quality of the players but part of it is also the playing style we have. I just mentioned that again, the game against United was a game that everybody loved to watch because we play such an attacking style of football and what comes with an attacking style of football is scoring a lot of goals. That’s what we do at the moment.
According to Squawka, Gakpo has scored a goal in the last five home games across all competitions for Liverpool. The Dutch international has enjoyed incredible consistency since last year’s March international break, shutting down his last season critics.
Meanwhile, Diaz has also faced criticism for his struggle to score goals during his tenure at Liverpool. The Colombian forward has proved his critics wrong this season under Slot, enjoying success in versatile roles at Liverpool.
The Reds need their prolific attackers to continue their top form during the second half of the season to achieve success. Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa are the other three attackers apart from Salah, Diaz and Gakpo.
