Liverpool are ready to sell or loan Jarell Quansah to accommodate the signing of Bournemouth star Dean Huijsen next summer. The Reds have earmarked Huijsen as their primary target to bolster the defensive department that has struggled in recent months.
When Arne Slot inherited a strong squad from Jurgen Klopp last summer, he used the season to assess the team. Despite enjoying a remarkable feat by securing Liverpool’s 20th Premier League title in his debut season, Slot want important changes.
There are many vulnerabilities in the current Liverpool team, highlighted by their surprise losses in the cup competitions this season. The Reds have suffered a late dip in form this season, parallel to what they endured last season.
At the same time, Slot has barely used the full strength of the squad, preferring selected players instead of rotation. Slot’s preferences caused a lot of fatigue to the players he preferred, which also played a role in poor performances.
According to Sky reporter Florian Plettenberg (via X), Liverpool plans to either loan or sell Quansah and sign Bournemouth star Huijsen. Quansah has failed to compete with captain Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate, who played regularly without many breaks.
Meanwhile, Huijsen has played a pivotal role for Bournemouth this season, helping them reach 8th position in the Premier League. The 20-year-old has both age and experience at his disposal, along with size, physique and technical qualities to thrive.
Huijsen has everything to act more than just a backup to Konate and Van Dijk, while eventually succeeding them. The Spanish international has a release clause of £50m and has attracted interest from several top European clubs.

Liverpool needs more depth in the squad with players that Slot could trust and rotate his first-team options with. The Reds cannot afford a repeat of what happened this season and last season as well.
There is no denying that Huijsen provides more competition to Konate and Van Dijk than the option Slot currently possesses. Both Joe Gomez and Quansah have struggled with fitness and consistency, respectively, making their future uncertain under Slot.
