Liverpool wants £60 million technical English prodigy in January

Liverpool are ready to challenge the top Premier League rival clubs to sign Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton in January. The Reds have already bolstered their midfield with established young German star Florian Wirtz but remain keen to strengthen more.
Top clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United are also keen to recruit Wharton, while Newcastle United are also in conversation. The 21-year-old midfielder established himself as a key name at Palace immediately after he arrived from Blackburn Rovers in 2024.
Wharton’s playmaking skills, maturity, and positioning sense, combined with his combative physical prowess, have garnered a lot of praise. At such a young age, the England international has a very high ceiling, yet he is already playing with incredible consistency.

According to ESPN (via TeamTalk), Liverpool are ready to challenge Man United and Chelsea among several clubs to sign Wharton from Palace in January, valued at £60 million by the Eagles. The Reds have a strong midfield department, but there is a recurring concern when they play a physically strong opponent.
Another important area of concern is the depth in the squad, as Liverpool struggled last season in the latter stages. They suffered losses in every cup competition due to a lack of rotation when fatigue started to play a role.
The Reds need to avoid the repeat of their last season’s mistake and rotate their midfielders, which demands more depth. Someone like Wharton fits the profile they desire, as he has the combination of both physical strength and technical abilities.
The Reds have operated with a three-man midfield under Arne Slot, preferring Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister in midfield. Slot has used Wirtz as the team’s number 10, operating as a conduit between the forwards and the midfielders.
The only remaining options are Dominik Szoboszlai, who has operated as a right-back in recent games, and Curtis Jones. As things stand, Wharton is a perfect addition for the midfield to give healthy competition to the senior players.
