After his £32 million transfer from West Ham United in the summer, Christian Benteke has been a huge disappointment at Anfield. The Belgian international had a phenomenal season at the Hammers but failed to live up to the expectation at Merseyside.
In the January transfer window, the striker was given an option to leave the club when the Chinese Super League teams showed interest in him but he has declined that and decided to fight for his place at Liverpool. Since then he has had only two starts but his showing at Crystal Palace may change things for him now.
Jurgen Klopp was not impressed earlier and was ready to offload him in the summer but his goal at Crystal Palace has given the player a lifeline to prove his credential. Benteke too has vowed that he will stay back and fight for his place. In the last match, he came off the substitute bench and scored a goal and it has clearly impressed Klopp.
Benteke had said “It’s not the easiest of situations, but you have to be ready.
“It’s in the most difficult situations that the real warriors, the tough men and determined guys stand-up. In a career you’ll never have only top moments, also your difficult times.”
