The longest-serving member of the current Liverpool squad is facing a race with time to prove that he is worthy of his place in the squad next season. Lucas Leiva, currently injured has an uncertain future as he may not be in manager’s plans for next season.

The Brazilian has become a fan favorite in the past few seasons. His no nonsense defending and lovable nature connected with the supporters. He was the first Brazilian to score for Liverpool when he scored in the 07-08 season.

As this is the first summer transfer window for Klopp at Liverpool, he will look for a major overhaul in the squad. With the early signings of Joel Matip and Marko Grujic, Jurgen Klopp has made his intentions clear. Some of the current players have to make way for new faces. It is strongly rumoured that the Brazilian midfield enforcer might be the one leaving the Club in the summer.

So let’s take a look at the possible replacements that Liverpool could sign for Lucas Leiva:

1. Granit Xhaka:

Liverpool are rumoured to be in the race to sign highly rated 25-year-old Swiss midfielder, Granit Xhaka. He has been an important player for Borussia Monchengladbach in the recent years and can be said as one of the best players in his position.

Granit Xhaka is good in possession, a great reader of the game, and a natural leader. The legendary German coach Ottmar Hitzfield dubbed him the young Schweinsteiger.

The reds have lacked a commanding voice in midfield since Javier Mascherano and this seems the perfect opportunity to bring the Swiss enforcer to Anfield. Although many clubs are after Xhaka, meeting of Jurgen Klopp with his agent may tilt the move to Liverpool. This will be a perfect transfer if it happens.
