The reds go into the summer with great hope after the arrival of Jurgen Klopp has reignited the desire to be on top again. Klopp has made all the right moves since taking over the reigns at Anfield and has become a darling of the Anfield in his first eight months. He has united the fan base and improved the players like Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren who were looking down the barrel in their time at the club.

Next season with no European competitions will add as an advantage to the club as with no midweek action, the players will get more time to get used to Klopp’s tactics. New additions are very much needed and the issues in defense have been sorted with the arrival of a new goalkeeper and a centre back from the Bundesliga. Another position which needs an upgrade is the left back position.

Alberto Moreno looks promising and he has proven that with his blistering pace, but has been found wanting at times. His positioning is questionable and has been involved in many errors on the left wing. One name that is being linked to the club and will surely be an upgrade on Moreno is the FC Koln left back, Jonas Hector. He will be Germany’s left back this Euros and the fans can get a glimpse of the 25 year old who is set to join the club after it is being reported that a £12 million fee is agreed between the two clubs.

Jonas Hector has played in the Bundesliga for just two seasons, but has made huge strides forward and has already gathered 12 caps for the Die Mannschaft. For Koln, who play a counter attacking football, Hector has been solid in a tight back four which then burst forward on the counter from the flanks. He has also played in the midfield and can contribute offensively too. Hector created the most chances by a defender the last season in the Bundesliga with 53.

Hector stands at 6″ 1′ which means he is better in the air than Moreno and also his positioning is far better than the Spaniard and has done well whenever in a one on one situation. Hector is brilliant at crosses and has provided many assists in the last two campaigns. Moreno’s passing can be wayward at times and Hector can be said as a clever passer of the ball.

Jurgen Klopp knows the player during his time in the Bundesliga and as the primary job of a full back is defending and Hector is far superior than the Spaniard, the reds should secure his services during the Euros. With Clyne and Hector having similar style of play, Liverpool can attack on the flanks when needed and with these two in defense, Liverpool will have a strong and mean defense ahead of the new season.
