Liverpool Star Was A Deadline Day Target For Arsenal In The Summer, Now 3 Premier League Clubs Chase Him

Daniel Sturridge’s future at Liverpool looks bleaker with each day passing by. The English forward is not a starter in Jurgen Klopp’s side anymore. His place has been taken over by Roberto Firmino, even Divock Origi is preferred as a substitute to lead the attack.

The former Chelsea striker didn’t even start in the 5-1 win over Hull City. Sturridge only came on in the second half but he did win a penalty for the Reds. With his future in the starting XI hanging in the balance, it should come as no surprise that the 27-year-old is linked with a move away from Merseyside.

Reports from Italy (cited by Express) suggest that the striker is on the radars of three Premier League clubs. Calciomercato believes that Sturridge is a realistic target for West Ham, Sunderland and Stoke City. The lack of first team football will be on Sturridge’s mind and a move away is not unfathomable.

A fresh start could be the key for Sturridge

We all know about Sturridge’s history with injuries and it is no surprise that he is not starting regularly for Liverpool. Constantly changing the XI with even one player can be a problem. Thus, keeping Sturridge out of the firing lines is a smart move by Jurgen Klopp.

Sturridge isn’t the best option for Liverpool’s gegenpressing style and it is no surprise that Firmino and even Divock Origi end up performing better for the team. Sturridge is an out-and-out striker and isn’t known for his pressing or defensive work.

While moving from Liverpool does make sense, the clubs mentioned in the list don’t. Apart from West Ham, the other two clubs aren’t really moving upwards and the English striker would stick out like a sore thumb. Even West Ham are struggling at the moment.  Sturridge wants to play for a top club where he has a chance of winning trophies. Reportedly Sturridge was offered on loan

to Arsenal in the last transfer window.

Goal reported this development and it does make sense for both parties.  The only problem was that the Gunners had already signed Lucas Perez from Deportivo La Coruna. Sturridge could have been a great option for Arsene Wenger as the London club does play a great attacking brand of football. For now, Sturridge will remain at Liverpool.

Future not safe for Sturridge

It would not be a surprise seeing Sturridge move out of the club in January. Liverpool are not taking part in any European competition and the lack of games will certainly hurt Sturridge’s sharpness. He is not someone who would want to sit on the bench and wait for his chance.

Sturridge’s case is not a peculiar one but he has to do the best of the situation. All the English striker can do is perform to his best abilities and hope that Jurgen Klopp gives him a chance.

The next few months will be interesting in the Daniel Sturridge saga. If things go as planned, he would be playing a lot of games for the Reds but it does seem he is on his way out of the club.
