Two Bitter Rivals Make Peace: Ex-Manchester United Star Congratulates Ex-Liverpool Superstar

Football certainly is a funny sport, something that unites and divides people. It can lead to great friendships or rivalries for decades and one such pair made headlines a number of years ago.

We all remember the Luis Suarez racism incident where the former Liverpool man was suspended for racially abusing Patrice Evra. But all that seems to be water under the bridge as the current Juventus and former Manchester United man has praised the Uruguayan on Instagram.

Evra stated that the Barcelona striker is the best number nine in the world. Suarez was given the golden shoe for scoring 40 goals in Europe last season.

The pair had a fractious meeting at Anfield and even when they next faced at Old Trafford, Suarez refused to shake the hand of the French defender. Liverpool ultimately had to sell their star striker after another infraction, this time in the 2014 World Cup where he bit Georgio Chiellini in a group game.

Barcelona is home for Suarez

The La Liga club Barcelona were the ones who got hold of the striker and after a slow start to his career, Suarez has become one of the best players in the team. In fact, Suarez has often eclipsed Neymar and ends up scoring more than the other famed attacker, Lionel Messi.

Not many expected the former Ajax man to become a regular at Barcelona but his incredible form also led to the sale of Pedro. Suarez has scored nine goals already this season and looks set for another stellar year with Barcelona.

In his first season with the club, Suarez won everything there is to win and it certainly must have pained Liverpool fans seeing him score goals for fun while the Merseyside club struggled.

The Reds did get a lot of money for his sale, close to €65 million, but Liverpool wasted the amount to build a squad under Brendan Rodgers. The Reds lost the impetus in their attack and became average.

Rodgers was later replaced by Jurgen Klopp and the German has turned things around for the club. It could have been a brilliant signing for Liverpool had Klopp been united with Suarez. With the striker’s relentless attacking ability, he would have been perfect for Klopp’s gegenpressing style. But some things are not meant to be and hopefully, Liverpool can achieve glory under the German this season.
