Philippe Coutinho Reportedly Wanted To Join Barcelona In The Last Transfer Window

Philippe Coutinho’s great form at the start of the season does not seem to be dying down and that is attracting interest from some of the top teams in the world. The 24-year-old Brazilian, who had a hand in two goals in the 4-2 win over Crystal Palace, apparently tried to move away from Liverpool last season.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, the former Inter Milan man tried to join Barcelona in the summer but the Catalan’s manager, Luis Enrique, wanted to strengthen some of the other areas in his team. This is not the first time Coutinho has been linked with a move away from Anfield as Real Madrid and PSG have also stated their interest in the mercurial Brazilian.

Although this should be taken as just a rumour, Coutinho did sign a long-term contract at Liverpool to keep him till 2020 and it will take a blockbuster deal to tow away the attacker from the Merseyside club.

There could be a deal on the way between Barcelona and Liverpool though and according to reports, this could see players moving to England.

Klopp wants Barcelona talents at Anfield

The German manager has always put his faith in the youth system wherever he has gone to coach and it seems to be no different at Liverpool. The former Borussia Dortmund manager has brought a lot of academy products into the Premier League side and is targeting four starlets from La Masia, the Barcelona academy, according to the Spanish outlet Sport

.

Sport believes that Jurgen wants to bring in Marc Candona, Wilfrid Kaptoum, Marlon Santos and Nili Perdono.

The quartet have had various degrees of playing time for the Blaugrana with Cardona still playing for the Barcelona B team and is 21-years old. The forward has been in decent form scoring five goals in his four appearances.

Kaptoum is a player that could actually slot straight into the Liverpool first team squad. The 20-year-old midfielder did play for the first team last season in the Copa del Rey and even scored a goal. Currently, the player is also in the Barcelona B team.

Marlon Santos is a centre-back while Perdono is a right-back. Klopp has done wonders with the Liverpool side and now he seems set to make it big with the youngsters in the academy. The quartet could still move to England but the Reds have a lot of talent in their academy as well.

The Coutinho rumour could be rubbished as tabloid tales but it would not be a surprise seeing one of the four mentioned later moving to Anfield. The Reds don’t really have a lot of cover in their defence and Santos and Perdono could just be the answers for the future.
