Jurgen Klopp Makes Personal Phone Call To Enquire About Youngster Also Targeted By Manchester United

Liverpool and Manchester United seem to be in a tug of war for the signing of rising talent Ben Brereton. The Nottingham Forest striker has been in great form for the U23 side and as bagged 15 goals from just 20 appearances for the side.

The Daily Star now claims that Jurgen Klopp has personally called up to enquire about the availability of Brereton and hopes to conclude a deal quickly. As stated earlier, Forest have tied down the youngster to a long-term contract but that would not be enough to keep clubs such as Liverpool out.

Brereton certainly has been a shining light for Forest and it would be a bit of a downer for the side if they are to lose him. But the club has a history of selling their best talents and Brereton could be just another example of that.

The one thing that does stand out is the fact that Liverpool seems to be more in the news for signing youngsters these days. Klopp is known to sign starlets and build a squad from the academy and he certainly seems to be on track to achieve something similar at Liverpool.

Phone calls make the difference for Liverpool?

The German manager might not have the biggest transfer war chest in the world but he does get the targets he wants with a phone call, it seems. Marko Grujic was the first such player that had a talk with Klopp and the visit from the German was enough to bring the talented Serbian to the club.

Joel Matip and Georginio Wijnaldum are a couple of other players that have been also been called up and the Dutch midfielder was pleased that Klopp even wanted to discuss a bit about his personal life. That was the clincher for the Wijnaldum deal and this call could see a similar result as well with Brereton.

While the youngster is scoring goals for fun in the U23 side, the 17-year-old has a long way to go before he can turn on for the Liverpool side or any other senior side regularly. What does work for Klopp and his Liverpool team is the fact that a number of youngsters have been given a chance to prove their ability.

From Kevin Stewart to Ben Woodburn, many players have come up through the academy and if Liverpool can work quickly and fast, Brereton should be playing in a Reds jersey soon.
