Dismal Gomez – The Best And The Worst Rated Liverpool Players In Their 1-2 Deafeat Against Wolverhampton

The poor run of form in the month of January continued for Liverpool as they were knocked out by another impressive display at Anfield, this time by Championship club Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Reds did put up an inexperienced side after their 1-0 loss in the EFL Cup and their only hope for silverware this season, the FA Cup, has been extinguished after the Wolves hit the Reds with a goal in the first minute of the game.

It was Richard Stearman who scored after just 53 seconds and then Andreas Weimann scored the second for the away side as they looked to cause another upset. Jurgen Klopp brought on the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Emre Can and Daniel Sturridge to change things in the second half and the Englishman did assist Divock Origi for the only goal for the Reds but that was it.

This marked the third loss in a row at home for the Merseyside club and Jurgen Klopp did take responsibility for the poor performance. While the club tries to amp itself up for the visit of Chelsea in a few days, here are the ratings for the Reds from the loss.

Loris Karius – 7/10

There really wasn’t much Karius could have done for both goals conceded. The German was pretty good otherwise and did have a couple of good saves to keep Liverpool in the game.

Connor Randall – 6/10

The young right-back didn’t have the best of times in the first half and couldn’t really link up well with the attacking players. He was substituted at the start of the second half to bring on Philippe Coutinho.

Joe Gomez – 5/10

The Englishman still looks short of match practice and Costa from the Wolves had a field day against the youngster. Gomez didn’t look comfortable on the field at all.

Ragnar Klavan – 6/10

The Estonian does seem to need some rest, he might have put in a few good performances lately but the month of January has been horrid for him.

Alberto Moreno – 6/10

The Spaniard gave away a free-kick in the first minute which the away side took advantage of. Moreno was alright thereafter but really couldn’t add a lot of quality to the Liverpool attack.

Ovie Ejaria – 7/10

The young midfielder was one of the bright spots for a poor Liverpool side and tried hard to create openings for the side. He didn’t really produce a lot of clear-cut goal scoring opportunities but he can hold his head up high after the game.  

Lucas Leiva – 6/10

Lucas had another poor game and often looked out of his depth. He should have taken a leader’s role to guide the young side but didn’t do much on the field.

Georginio Wijnaldum – 6/10

Unlucky to get booked in the second half, Wijnaldum was another player that many expected to step up in the game but barely got going. He did have a good chance to score in the second half but wasted his opportunity.

Ben Woodburn – 7/10

Woodburn was played out on the right and did have a couple of bright sparks, especially in the second half but it just was not enough for the Reds.

Roberto Firmino – 6/10

The Brazilian looked off-colour and does need some rest. He wasn’t really involved in the game and was taken off in the second half to bring on Daniel Sturridge.

Divock Origi – 4/10

Origi might have gotten the goal but he was horrible with the ball at his feet. His movement was static; he gave away needless fouls and certainly looks like he needs a rest.

Substitutes

Philippe Coutinho – 6/10

The Brazilian came on at the start of the second half but there was barely any movement form the Liverpool players which Coutinho could use. A poor second half and hopefully he will do better against Chelsea.

Daniel Sturridge – 5/10

Sturridge barely helped the side out and tried to do too many things with the ball at his feet. Again, no movement, no penetration and a poor showing from the Englishman on the pitch.

Emre Can – 5/10

The German didn’t really stand out either from a horrendous showing at Anfield.
