Liverpool are said to be preparing an audacious bid for Dortmund superstar Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang come end of the season. While the prospect of Aubameyang to Liverpool looks as bizarre as it sounds, there is no smoke without fire. Although the player has revealed his desire to move to the Santiago Bernabeu, an invitation from England would be hard to resist.

The Gabon striker has gone on to become one of the hottest strikers in world football since joining Borussia Dortmund in 2013 and there is infinite demand for his services. The Reds believe they have a chance with Klopp in the dugout and think that the prospect of working with his former manager might convince the player.

Would he fit in?

It is easy to forget the quality that Liverpool possess because of their inconsistent performances throughout the season. They have shown progress under Jurgen Klopp and it would be unfair to judge them before the end of the season. With Sadio Mane settling down well under the German manager and Coutinho looking dangerous every time he’s on the ball, a superstar striker who is as complete as Aubameyang might be what they need to step up their title credentials next season.

Firmino has struggled for form and Sturridge has hardly stayed fit. Any side with title aspirations needs an attacking duo or an attacking trio to fire them to glory and that might very well be the case at Liverpool as well.

If they do manage to pull a rabbit out of the hat to land the Dortmund monster, Liverpool may well be able to send a statement to the rest of the world, announcing their arrival back to the helm of European football, just like how they were in 1970s and 80s.

However, any hope of trying to bring the star striker depends on Liverpool’s position at the end of the season. With their inconsistent form, it is going to be difficult for them to finish in top four. But it is not an impossible task either. A squad with such quality as the Merseyside club can easily outperform the likes of Manchester United and maybe even Manchester City, who have had their own share of struggles this current season.

Verdict

Aubameyang is a player who would instantly improve almost all the teams in the world. Barring any approach from the likes of Real Madrid, Liverpool may very well have a good chance of luring the hitman away from Signal Iduna Park.

Liverpool fans have every reason to be excited about this.
