Liverpool Attacker Gives Injury Boost As He Is On Course For Pre-season Return

Ings has been working hard all summer in a bid to return for Liverpool’s pre-season. The striker missed the majority of last season after suffering an injury. According to James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo, the England international only had one week of summer holidays to get himself in the best shape possible to kick-start his Reds career in the upcoming season.

Ings has had terrible fortune with injuries since making the move to Anfield from Burnley. He has suffered two separate knee injuries, which have left him sidelined for the majority of the past two campaigns. Both injuries required extensive surgery. He has been working hard at Melwood regularly all summer and is reportedly

ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation.

Jurgen Klopp has been impressed at the way Ings has thrown himself into his recovery. It seems that he does have a career at Liverpool, despite plenty of competition. The club’s attacking options have already increased this summer, after the signing of young striker Dominic Solanke from Chelsea and Mohamed Salah from Roma.

Ings though, is determined to make an impact for the Merseyside club. There is no date for his expected return, but he should return in pre-season at some stage, according to Pearce

. He’ll be used cautiously, after suffering two injuries that could have ended his career.

The Kop Times Verdict

Liverpool’s return to European football should ensure that Ings receives game time in the EFL Cup and FA Cup at the very least. Klopp likes Ings and he admires his attitude. If he gets himself fit, then he could even rise above Daniel Sturridge in the pecking order. Sturridge doesn’t appear to be the German’s cup of tea.

Ings returned from his first injury to a rapturous reception from Liverpool fans, last season. It seemed that he may start making inroads into the side’s starting line-up. However, his comeback was short lived. The second layoff was a devastating blow.

It is yet to be seen whether Ings can recover from the double setback, both mentally and physically. However, his hard work in the off-season emphasises that his desire has not diminished.

Welcome back Danny Ings!
