According to the Daily Mirror, Liverpool have rejected an enquiry from Paris St. Germain for the star man Phillipe Coutinho. It is understood that the French giants, who lost their Ligue1 crown to Monaco last season, have made the Brazilian their prime target this summer.

Coutinho is one of the most sought-after players in football right now, and how long Liverpool can hold onto him is yet to be seen. Barcelona have also displayed an interest

this summer.

Liverpool are believed to want £87million for Coutinho. In the modern market, that is a decent value, and won’t be beyond the budgets of Europe’s most cash-rich clubs.

The former Inter Milan star has become Liverpool’s most crucial player over the past few seasons. He scored 13 Premier League goals for the Reds last campaign. That is no mean feat for a midfield player. He also assisted 7 goals and created an impressive 65 chances to cement his place as one of Europe’s most dangerous players. Jurgen Klopp will want to build a team around him, as the club attempt to win silverware in the coming years.

The 25-year old, did sign a new deal

with Liverpool earlier this year, which saw him become the highest earner at the Merseyside club. For now, he seems content to stay at Liverpool and continue playing under Klopp, who has helped him improve his game.

Liverpool supporters though, will remember all too well how helpless they were in the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona. You get the feeling that if Coutinho keeps shining, a similar situation may arise.

A factor that may persuade him to stay at Anfield for at least another year, is the club’s return to the Champions League. Coutinho has made his home in Liverpool, and is comfortable in his surroundings. The players and the fans love him.

Coutinho captained the Brazilian national team against Australia during the most recent international break. For his country, he is becoming an increasingly influential figure. Brazil have already qualified for next summer’s World Cup in Russia, and appear to be making a recovery. The emergence of many talented youngsters has enthused the Brazilian football public, once more. You feel that Coutinho will be instrumental to any success they enjoy in Russia.
