ESPN Pundit Gives Transfer Boost For Liverpool As Key First Team Midfielder Is Going No Where

Emre Can will not be leaving Liverpool in the summer according to former Liverpool player Steve Nicol. The pundit on ESPN FC (h/t Express) claimed that the German isn’t trying to force a move out and is confident that the midfielder will be a Liverpool player this season.

Can is one of the players linked with a move away from the Reds in the summer with Juventus circling around to capitalise on the contract situation of the German. The former Bayern Munich man only has one year left on his current deal and is yet to sign an extension with the club.

Both sides have tried to finalise a deal which would keep Can at the club for the immediate future but things have just not clicked so far.

However, Nicol believes that the German will remain at Anfield due to the presence of Jurgen Klopp. The Daily Star carried quotes from the former Liverpool man as he spoke to ESPN FC (h/t Express).

“I don’t think he’s trying to force anything to be honest. I’m pretty sure he’s going to stay at Liverpool. I think the influence of Klopp definitely is the reason that I think he will stay.

“I think this will get done and certainly from a fans point of view, I hope Can stays.”

Can has become one of our most important players and losing him would be a huge blow, no matter what people say. The 23-year-old really stepped up his game during the second half of last season and he put in a number of great performances to ensure we finished in the top four.

His performances have also seen him claim a place in the German national team and he did win the Confederations Cup earlier this year in Russia. The summer certainly has been a turbulent one for us as Philippe Coutinho’s protracted move to Barcelona does not seem to be dying out anytime soon.

Losing Can would be a huge blow but Nicol might have a point, that the German could stay due to Klopp. Can has become a regular for us since Klopp took over and moving just before the World Cup summer is always a risky proposition, especially when moving to a new country.

Staying at Liverpool would make sense for now, since Can not only knows the league but we would have a lot of extra games due to our European commitments. Not having quality in our side would greatly affect our results.

We must do all we can to keep Can at Anfield, even if it means negotiating a new contract with him after a month or so.
