Liverpool Face Stiff Competition From Manchester United For Out Of Contract German Star

Leon Goretzka will be one of the hottest free agents in the upcoming summer as he will let his contract run out at Schalke. The Bundesliga giants have been trying their best to extend his contract but the 22-year-old is adamant he wants a new challenge and the Premier League could be the place for him.

Tottenham and Arsenal have been the first few clubs linked with a move for the German international but now the Bild (h/t The Mirror

) claims that we are also in the race for the 22-year-old and are set to battle Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United for his signature.

Goretzka can play as a central midfielder or even as an attacker and would be one of the shrewdest signings of the 2018 summer, should someone not snap him up in January. Jurgen Klopp does know the Bundesliga very well and would know most of the players in the league.

The German isn’t the most prolific when it comes to scoring but he does have 20 goals to his name across 5 seasons in the Bundesliga.

There are a number of clubs who are willing to sign him up, with Barcelona and Bayern Munich also keeping tabs on the 22-year-old. Bayern have been struggling in the Bundesliga of late while Barcelona do need replacements for Andres Iniesta.

A Big Battle Brewing For Goretzka

Liverpool would love to have a player such as Goretzka as he is certainly better than a couple of first-teamers at the club. Add to that, we might lose out on Emre Can next season as he hasn’t signed a contract extension with us.

There is also a fear that we will not be able to hold Philippe Coutinho, who could be on his way to Barcelona

for a huge fee.

Goretzka has a number of clubs to choose from and it might not be easy to beat Barcelona or Bayern for his signature. But if we play to our potential and blow teams away with our attack, it might be hard for someone to say no to Klopp and his playing style.
