Former Arsenal And Liverpool Stars Claim Star Man’s Time At Liverpool Is All But Over

Daniel Sturridge has found it difficult to break into the Liverpool side after some good performances from Roberto Firmino as a part of our front three. The English striker, at one time, was one of the best finishers in the game but a number of injuries and poor form have made it difficult for him to impress under Jurgen Klopp.

Sturridge was given the chance to show his ability in front of goal against Newcastle United, however, the 28-year-old squandered a golden chance to score our second goal when he was one-on-one against the goalkeeper.

This was the second such game where he messed up a chance which he would have finished with ease a couple of years ago. In the Champions League match against Spartak Moscow, Sturridge could have clinched the winner late on but blasted high over the crossbar.

It is because of performances like these that many believe that the Englishman’s days at Anfield are numbered, with former Arsenal striker Ian Wright claiming that Sturridge should think about moving to Newcastle.

The Express carried the quotes from the Arsenal legend when he was speaking with BBC Radio 5 Live.

“I think Newcastle would be the ideal club for Daniel Sturridge. The fans would take to him there.”

That certainly seems a bit odd from the former striker simply because Sturridge has been off the pace for a year or so now and it would need a miracle for Rafa Benitez to sign the former Manchester City and Chelsea striker.

Also, the Newcastle manager does not have a lot of funds to use and had to settle for a cut-price deal to bring in Joselu towards the fag end of the transfer window.

The poor performance by Sturridge also saw former Reds manager Graeme Souness speak out about the Englishman not getting a chance to start a game anytime soon under Klopp.

“He was laboured, a yard off the pace, I don’t think he can train properly, and that’s why he gets injury after injury,” Souness said.

“I was watching him last year, and his warm up was like 30 per cent. Then he is expected to sprint when the game starts.

“It might be another month, six weeks before Klopp plays him again. Klopp sacrificed the workrate of Firmino for a bit of magic from Sturridge, but he didn’t have it, he laboured today.”

Unless Sturridge can turn his form around, magically, he is one player that will not be at Liverpool beyond the summer.
