“Liverpool’s transfer window didn’t go well” – Reds Legend Criticises Club’s Work During The Summer

Liverpool’s 1-1 draw against Newcastle was the latest frustrating result in a season that promised a lot for the fans. Many of us expected the team to challenge for the title, especially after making it into the Champions League this season, but we haven’t been clinical in front of goal and have still suffered from defensive issues.

There have been a number of voices that have expressed their discontent with our transfer policy over the summer and Jamie Carragher, once again, took a pop at our work during the summer.

The Metro carried quotes from the former Liverpool defender when he was speaking to Sky Sports.

“Liverpool’s transfer window didn’t go well.

“If you think of Liverpool in this first seven games, you can trace it back to what United were doing wrong last season – lots of chances but couldn’t score.”

While United did struggle to defeat opponents at home last season, they still made it a successful season by winning the Europa League and the League Cup. We, on the other hand, are already out of the League Cup and have just two points from our first two games in the Champions League.

Carra also hit us where it hurts the most, by claiming that United had worked on their deficiencies in the summer by bringing in Romelu Lukaku, someone who can convert the chances. We didn’t bring in a central defender to help us stop conceding goals and neither did we bring in a defensive midfielder.

“End of the season they went and bought [Romelu] Lukaku and it looks like that problem is fixed.

“I still look at Liverpool and think they didn’t fix the problems in the summer that needed fixing and that is the big problem.

“I just feel like every time I do a Liverpool game, I am going to be saying the same things. Klopp’s getting the questions, I’m going to be giving the same answers.”

We have only won once in our last seven games, that too it was a lucky one against Leicester City. The major problem for us this season has been our inability to convert our chances in front of goal.

The leaky defence is a major problem too, which has not been rectified but had we scored from the umpteen chances we have had since the Manchester City loss, we certainly would not be talking about a failed transfer window.

Fortunately, we have gotten into the international break where Jurgen Klopp can re-look at not only the defence but also at the attack and hopefully, once we are back to playing, we will win games more comfortably.
