Liverpool Move One Step Ahead In The Race To Sign Frenchman – Reports

Liverpool are ready to take advantage of AS Monaco’s loosening stance on one of their wingers. According to reports in the Mirror, Liverpool have moved ahead of the competition for the signature of winger Thomas Lemar.

The 22-year-old French winger has been under constant speculation this summer with many reports linking him to the exit door. In fact, fellow Premier League Club Arsenal were reported to have made an unsuccessful deadline day bid during the summer transfer window.

The Reds were tracking Lemar throughout the transfer window. They felt that a deal for the player could be possible but were knocked back by Monaco who said that they did not intend to sell him.

This is where it becomes interesting because it is widely believed that Arsenal would go back for the player next summer, having been unsuccessful with their earlier bid.

However, the report from the Mirror states that the Gunners have now set their sights on another player from the French Ligue 1. Having already snapped up Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon, Arsene Wenger is ready to go back for the signature of the £60million-rated

Nabil Fekir.

With the prospect of losing one or both of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez in January or at the end of the season, Wenger is eyeing the prospect of replacing them with Fekir. That could mean an abandoned pursuit for Lemar, leaving the door wide open for Liverpool to take advantage.

So, will the transfer happen next summer? It must be noted that Liverpool’s pursuit of Lemar in the summer hinged on the sale of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona.

With the Catalan giants open to the prospect

of increasing their bid for Coutinho in January, Liverpool will have the cash to stump up the required fee for Lemar.

Liverpool fans will have the mouth-watering prospect of seeing more pace on the wings should Lemar make a move to Anfield. Do not be surprised if it turns out to be one of the first moves next summer.
