£36m-rated Liverpool target rejects Arsenal move giving Klopp a boost to secure second Jan signing

These are interesting times for Liverpool fans as we just smashed the transfer record for a defender by signing Virgil van Dijk from Southampton and now reports suggest that we could beat the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham to the signature of Leon Goretzka.

According to Bild, the German international has made up his mind over which club to sign for in the summer and will reject both Arsenal and Tottenham in favour of Anfield.

The German is available on a free transfer at the end of the season but he can discuss terms of a new contract with non-Bundesliga clubs in the winter window. The £36m rated Goretzka is one of the hottest properties in German football and there were many who claimed the midfielder would be joining Bayern Munich in the summer.

However, the midfielder seems to be interested in joining our project and wants to link up with Jurgen Klopp, who is transforming our side. Hopefully, with the signing of Goretzka, we could be challengers for the title next season.

Another Free Signing For Us From Schalke?

Goretzka is one of the best in the Bundesliga and can grow into an incredible player in the right atmosphere. The midfielder has been great for Schalke but it would be a huge loss for the Bundesliga side and would just prove how much of a big draw Jurgen Klopp is for Germany based players.

We did sign Joel Matip from the same club on a free transfer earlier and getting Goretzka would be the icing on the cake but that would only look like a great signing should we be able to keep hold of Philippe Coutinho.

The Brazilian has been linked with a big-money move to Barcelona and many believe that the German would be a replacement for the former Inter Milan man.

Should we lose Coutinho, getting Goretzka would be a small victory but he still has a long way to go before he can affect games in the same way as our Brazilian does. Hopefully, we can keep Coutinho and that would certainly make us the closest challengers to Manchester City next season.
