Liverpool retain interest in £90million attacker – Summer move on the cards

Thomas Lemar

Ever since AS Monaco picked up the Ligue 1 trophy last season with its troupe of young stars, clubs across Europe have been circling to acquire them. Last summer, a few players like Kylian Mbappe, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Benjamin Mendy departed but Thomas Lemar stayed back, despite attracting a lot of attention from top clubs. Liverpool were one of the clubs to register an initial interest in him but a deal failed to materialise back then.

Now, we have been linked with a January move for Lemar but if reports from Daily Mail are to be believed, the French attacker might be available in the upcoming summer window. Estimated to be valued at £90million, Lemar will certainly not come cheap. However, we do have quite a bit of funding at present, thanks to the money we received from the sale of Philippe Coutinho. Hence, next summer might be the ideal time to lure Lemar to the Merseyside.

The report also states that Lemar is keen on moving to England over Spain (the likes of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are understood

to be monitoring him). The player was thrust into the harsh glare of the spotlight last season after his immaculate performances in the UEFA Champions League. His well-timed, incisive runs and sheer attacking skills earned him quite a few admirers across the world.

While he does seem like a viable option, many are of the opinion that his price tag might just be a bit too high. To be very honest, he has struggled to an extent this season. Although he was in stupendous form last term, Lemar has only scored 3 goals and 4 assists so far this campaign. If not for his previous displays, many clubs would have dropped their pursuit of the midfielder altogether.

That said, there is no denying his talent. He boasts of tremendous potential and maybe moving to a new environment is what he needs in order to replicate his stunning form from the previous season. It remains to be seen if Liverpool are ready to shell out that money but he is definitely a target worth pursuing.
