Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has told the Daily Mail

that his Liverpool team was not a one-man team and that Jurgen Klopp is being treated differently in the Premier League because he is not British.

Under Rodgers, the Reds came the closest to winning the Premier League title (in the 2013-14 season). However, Liverpool fans’ dream of seeing their club lift the PL title were shattered due to a poor run of results towards the end of that season as Manchester City went on to win the title.

The Reds finished second and Rodgers had to face criticism. However, the 45-year-old, who guided Celtic to a domestic treble in his first season in Scotland, believes that Klopp and Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino don’t face repeated criticism because they are not British.

“People said, ‘Well, he had Luis Suarez’,” Rodgers said in an interview with Daily Mail. “I thought that was very discourteous, mainly to the rest of the players, because we had created a team and we had one team and it had one brain.

“Luis was the focal point of it but he will tell you himself that he couldn’t have done that without the adjustments of the others.

“If you equate what was said about me with what might be said about a foreign coach, then as an example Mauricio Pochettino has done a great job at Tottenham but they probably wouldn’t say, ‘It’s down to Harry Kane’.

“And it is the same with Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool with the contribution of Mo Salah. But for a British coach, there always has to be a catch.”

For all the brilliant work Rodgers did, he was not given the credit he deserved when he left Anfield. Indeed, Suarez was the team’s focal point but how can someone forget the contributions made by Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling that season?

Rodgers should always be remembered for his contribution to Liverpool.
