Liverpool handed transfer boost as Schalke confirm Meyer is set to move in the summer

Max Meyer

Liverpool have been given a boost in their hopes of signing Schalke star Max Meyer as the German club now claim that they are preparing for life without the midfielder next season.

Meyer would be a free agent come the end of the current season and talks over a new contract have stalled between the two parties, which could open the doors for a number of clubs to sign the talented youngster.

A couple of Premier League clubs, Liverpool and Arsenal, are also interested in signing the midfielder. Contract negotiations with the Bundesliga club have not gone well as a report from Birmingham Live claim that the 22-year-old midfielder turned down two offers from Schalke.

The report also carries quotes

from Christian Heidel, the sporting director for Schalke.

“At the moment we can and must expect that Max leaves the club in the summer. Everything suggests that. At the moment there is no offer from us and no wish from Max to have a conversation again.”

Meyer can play in a number of roles in the midfield but he is known for his passing ability and interception skills. The German has scored just once for the Royal Blues and he has played in 27 games in all competitions.

Schalke Set To Lose Another Star For Free

Meyer could become yet another free agent to leave Schalke after they saw Joel Matip switch clubs a couple of seasons ago. The former Schalke defender moved to Liverpool and was one of Jurgen Klopp’s earliest signings for the Reds.

Losing Meyer would be a bit of a blow for the German side given the quality player that he is.
