Liverpool target with €100million release clause provides update on future

There have been a lot of rumours suggesting Liverpool’s interest in Atletico Madrid shot-stopper Jan Oblak and the player recently provided an update on the possibility of an exit from the La Liga club.

Speaking after Atletico’s 0-0 draw with Real Betis, the Daily Mail quoted him as saying:

“No news. I have the contract that I signed two years ago.

“What will happen, well nobody knows, not even me. I prefer to finish the season well and hopefully with a title. Then we’ll see but I have a contract. I do not think of anything other than Atletico.

“Atletico can grow. They have grown a lot and surely will not stop now, although it is not easy. I am sure that Atletico will grow and we will see what will happen to me, for the moment I am here.

“I have a contract until 2021. If I continue, we will grow together and if not, the club will grow as well,” concluded Oblak.

Well, as far as the goalkeeping situation at Liverpool is concerned, there is no doubt that we are in dire need of a quality signing. Simon Mignolet has been rather underwhelming this season and although second-choice keeper Loris Karius has done decently enough, he has made some costly errors lately.

If we are to elevate our performances and challenge for the Premier League title next season, we must strengthen our goalkeeping department.

Our attack has been absolutely phenomenal while our midfielders and defenders have managed to hold themselves up pretty well. However, the goalkeeping woes need to be sorted out immediately.

Karius can continue being our second-choice keeper but Mignolet can certainly not be trusted with first-team duties anymore. Considering how brilliantly Oblak has performed this season, it comes as no surprise that Liverpool are interested in him.

However, a player like him will certainly not come cheap and according to a report from AS English

Selling Philippe Coutinho may have raised some funds but it remains to be seen if Jurgen Klopp is willing to spend most of it on securing Oblak’s services this summer.
