Liverpool suffer injury blow ahead of Champions League final as key midfielder is ruled out

Emre Can

Emre Can might not be available for the Champions League final, according to Telegraph journalist Chris Bascombe. The journalist tweeted that the German midfielder had a scan on his back and he was still not back at Melwood for training.

The German has been missing from action since the 5-0 win over Watford at the start of March and would have saved us a lot of turmoil had he been fit for the final weeks of the season.

Injuries to the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Adam Lallana have really reduced our options in the midfield, with us having to wisely play with Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Georginio Wijnaldum.

In fact, Jurgen Klopp even played Trent Alexander-Arnold as a central midfielder in a couple of games without much success. We haven’t won our last three Premier League games and there is pressure on us to finish fourth after the 1-0 loss against Chelsea.

We still have the chance of making it to the top-four should we win against Brighton on the final day of the season but had Can been fit, we could have given the likes of Milner or Henderson a rest.

The German’s contract expires at the end of the season and it would be a shame if he does not play for us next season.

Can has always given his all for the club and losing him at the age of 24 would be a bit of a blow given that he has played well in numerous games for us since making his move from Bayer Leverkusen.

We have had a number of injury issues over the past few weeks and with Joe Gomez also being ruled out of the Champions League final after an ankle surgery, we have to be careful when we face Brighton on the final day of the season.

Liverpool do have a two-week break before the Champions League final and hopefully, we have a fit enough squad to overhaul Real Madrid and help Jurgen Klopp win his first title for us.
