Trusted Italian transfer expert reveals Liverpool’s failed bid to sign £44m goalkeeper

Liverpool saw a £44m bid rejected for Alisson earlier in the year according to Italian expert Tancredi Palmeri. In a column for Tutto Mercato Web (h/t The Express) the Italian also claimed that AS Roma have set their selling price for the Brazilian keeper which is touted to be a world-record fee of £61m.

“In February, Liverpool’s €50m [£44m] assault was dismissed: if Roma sells, it will only be breaking through the record for the highest paid goalkeeper in history, still held by [Gianluigi] Buffon since 2001.

“The assessment [valuation] is €70m [£61m].”

The Italian went on to claim that out of all the top sides in the world, it is only Liverpool that require a quality goalkeeper.

The expert added that Paris Saint-Germain could get former Juventus man Gianluigi Buffon. Palmeri also stated that Roma do not need to sell their star keeper but would find it difficult to say no to a world-record fee.

Big money needed for a quality player

Even if we are talking about a deal worth £61m to bring Alisson in, the Brazilian could really transform our side. We all had our doubts when we spent a crazy amount to sign Virgil van Dijk from Southampton but the Dutch defender did make us a more formidable unit at the back and the same might be the case if we bring in Alisson.

The 25-year-old has been one of the top keepers in the Serie A and will also be going to the World Cup in Russia. If Alisson really is the man that Jurgen Klopp has finalised to sign, there is no doubt that we will sign him, irrespective of the price that Roma ask.
