Liverpool take one more step in their pursuit of £18m Premier League star as club runs background check

Liverpool are set to move for Burnley star Nick Pope, according to The Mirror. The 26-year-old is rated at £18m as he helped Sean Dyche’s side finish 7th last season.

Pope has been in incredible form since taking over from Tom Heaton as the No.1 for the Clarets and his brilliance between the sticks put him on the plane to Russia with the England side.

The report also claims that the Reds have been learning more about the keeper by running background checks on the 26-year-old. Pope’s excellence also saw him get voted as the fans’ player of the season and the players’ player of the season for the Clarets.

Pope is another example of how a young player should do well while coming through the league. The England international was playing Ryman League football seven years ago but now is starring at the biggest event in football, the World Cup.

This player also reminds me of the story of Andy Robertson, who had a similar rise up the ranks while playing football in Scotland.

Moving for Pope does make sense for a couple of reasons. The Englishman would be a really cheap option to get if we can really sign him for £18m

.

The other is that he is in the form of his life and hopefully, he can continue doing the same should he move to Anfield. While we haven’t always splashed big on a goalkeeper, this could be a decent signing to make.
