Wilson, Woodburn and Brewster – Solving the major conundrum for Klopp and company

If the first pre-season game is anything to go by, Jurgen Klopp will have a lot of thinking to do about the young attackers we have at Liverpool.

We did hammer Chester 7-0 in the first game of our pre-season and apart from Naby Keita and Fabinho being the talking points due to their debuts for the club, the attack has a big question mark regarding who remains at the club next season.

Our front three is more or less sorted with Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane all set to start next season on fire but just who will be covering them?

Divock Origi, Danny Ings and Dominic Solanke seem to be the three players fighting it out for a couple of places on the bench but there is also a lot of chat going on about the younger players in the side such as Ben Woodburn

, Harry Wilson and Rhian Brewster.

Bright sparks make it tough for Jurgen Klopp next season

The trio needs to be playing regular football in order to grow and progress, something that did not take place with Brewster and Woodburn last season.

Brewster picked up an injury which curtailed his campaign and there was a lot of talk about Woodburn going out on loan but nothing happened for the Welshman who had a fantastic campaign a couple of years ago.

Rhian Brewster

Wilson was the one player that made a huge mark when he left for Hull City and because of his excellent form, a number of clubs are interested in signing the player up.

The problem with going away on loan is that it does not guarantee playing time for the youngster and that is something that we must include in any deal should either one of the three youngsters leave Anfield this summer.

Additionally, the problem with sticking to Liverpool would be a lack of playing time as Klopp would prefer to start with the best options and only look at the young players for cup competitions or for matches that don’t carry much importance.

Harry Wilson

However, we will have to keep at least one of the kids in the side as they would provide cover for our front three. It does seem likely that Wilson could be the man to break into our starting XI.

The youngster was on fire for Hull City last time around and could possibly have a bigger impact in the team than Dominic Solanke did despite being in and around the first team for numerous games last season.

Dominic Solanke

Wilson’s meteoric rise has seen him play for the Welsh national side too and he even scored a goal in a 6-0 win over China, so he has the ability to play at the top level.

However, in recent years we have seen that keeping a player at Anfield without offering regular football does not work out all that well and that is the big decision Klopp has to make.

Keeping the players here will help them learn more about the Anfield way and what Klopp wants from the starlets as he looks to bring them closer and closer to the first team but this would also mean more reserve matches and less game time in clashes that count for more.

Ben Woodburn

Sending them out on loan could also see them lose their edge and end up playing football that is not the Liverpool way and that would affect their chances of making an impact when they return.

This is a problem that is tough to solve but whatever happens, it will be important that all the players grow and reach newer heights rather than stick to their level and lose out on their chance of making it big at Anfield.
