Nabil Fekir

Liverpool’s move for Lyon midfielder Nabil Fekir could be off, according to bookmakers Betfair (h/t the Daily Star).

“Looks like the Nabil Fekir deal could be off, now 6/4 from 1/4 a few days ago to go to Liverpool,” a Betfair spokesperson was quoted by the Daily Star.

Fekir, 25, who recently won the World Cup with France, is at odds of 4/6 to remain at the Ligue 1 club for the upcoming campaign.

The French attacker looked set to join Liverpool

last month, with a move to Anfield almost coming to fruition. Prior to the World Cup, he underwent a medical with our club but concerns over a long-standing knee issue contributed to a deal turning cold at the 11th hour.

After the collapsed deal, the Merseysiders have completed the signings of winger Xherdan Shaqiri and goalkeeper Alisson Becker from Stoke City and AS Roma respectively. We also recruited the likes of Fabinho and Naby Keita earlier this summer, however, Klopp is reportedly still keen to improve his options in the attack.

But as per the Daily Star, Lyon now wants at least £50m for Fekir, who was outstanding for the Ligue 1 giants last term, scoring 23 goals and supplying a further 8 assists in 40 appearances.

Considering we have splashed a lot of money this summer to bring in quality players, it would be nice if Klopp didn’t go after Fekir again. Fekir is a quality versatile attacker – no second thoughts about it, but the acquisitions of Shaqiri

, Keita and Fabinho are enough for the upcoming campaign.

Also with Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas claiming that Fekir is set to stay put at the club, Klopp must not pursue the Frenchman.
