Liverpool can boost their Champions League Pot position should this happen

Liverpool are placed in Pot 3 for the upcoming Champions League draw and could end up in a group featuring Real Madrid and Napoli or Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund.

However, the Mirror reports that we could end up in Pot 2, which would lead to an easier group should a couple of teams lose their Champions League qualifiers.

Benfica and Basel both need to be eliminated from the Champions League and that would push us to Pot 2. If only one of the clubs gets eliminated then it would be AS Roma that go into Pot 2 and we remain in the third pot.

Things seem to be working for us a bit as Basel lost their qualifier first-leg against PAOK and have it all to do in the second leg.

Should the Swiss side make it to the next round, they would have to face Spartak Moscow and then play another qualifier before making it to the Pots for the draw.

Benfica do not play until the next round but they too will be facing one of the strongest teams in Fenerbahce over the two legs. Should the side from Portugal make it through, they would have another qualifying round to navigate before making it to the draw.

Liverpool did make it to the Champions League final last season but that was not enough to give us an easy position in the Pots.

There still is a lot that can happen in the coming weeks and if things go right for us, a berth in Pot 2 would be excellent.
