Liverpool to sell defender by the end of this month as Klopp is prepared to listen to offers

Ragnar Klavan could be set to leave Liverpool before 31st August, according to the Liverpool Echo. The report claims that the Reds will listen to offers for the 32-year-old Estonian, as the central defender wants more playing time.

Klavan arrived at the club in 2016 from Bundesliga side Augsburg and a return to Germany is a possibility. The report also added

that Liverpool rejected an offer from Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle United in the final week of the Premier League transfer deadline.

The report suggested that Liverpool were short of cover for the centre-backs last week. However, with Joel Matip training and Dejan Lovren’s injury expected to keep him out for only a few weeks, Jurgen Klopp has given the green light for Klavan to move to a new club (h/t Liverpool Echo).

Klavan has always given his all while playing in a Liverpool jersey but his time on the pitch would be limited this season, due to the options we have at the back.

Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez impressed in our 4-0 rout over West Ham United. Should Matip and Lovren regain their fitness, Klavan would fall further down the pecking order at Liverpool.

The report also claims

that Klopp is not actively looking to sell the Estonian as the defender is regarded as a model professional. As per Liverpool Echo, if Liverpool do not receive the right offer for the 32-year-old, Klavan would remain at Anfield this season as he enters the final 12 months of his contract.
