Jurgen Klopp downplays Gotze rumours and wants team to focus on League Cup encounter

Liverpool face Chelsea in the Carabao Cup before their clash against the Blues at the weekend in the Premier League and Jurgen Klopp was facing the media.

The German has seen the Reds start the season with seven wins from as many games but we could see some fringe players receiving chances on Wednesday.

Alisson has been our No.1 keeper but Klopp confirmed that Simon Mignolet would start in place of the Brazilian, as per the Liverpool Echo.

The German also spoke

about Virgil van Dijk and his recovery from an injury he picked up against Southampton.

“He is much better. It’s still a bit painful, and nothing else. We will see how we deal with that. It’s how we thought already, not too serious, but it’s not nothing.”

The week also saw former Borussia Dortmund star Kevin Grosskreutz tell Mario Gotze to move to Liverpool but Klopp wanted to concentrate on the job at hand.

Mario Gotze

“There’s absolutely nothing that I would want to talk about in a press conference in England before a game against Chelsea!

“If I have to say something to Mario then I call him, and I don’t talk. Absolutely nothing to say.”

There was one important question asked about the team’s weekend game against the same opponents but Klopp shot that suggestion down as well.

The German believed that we should be thinking about the Carabao Cup clash first and after this game, we would be preparing for the Premier League clash on Saturday.

We haven’t won a trophy under the German and there might be some pressure to break that duck this season and Klopp was asked about the importance of picking up a trophy.

“I don’t know exactly. The good thing is that in this moment I cannot get a trophy, so I don’t have to think about it.”

Liverpool should start as slight favourites for the game tomorrow and if we end up beating the Blues, it will give us a lot more confidence going into the weekend’s clash.
