Good news for Liverpool as Klopp provides positive update on injured star

Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp admits it would have been difficult for Liverpool to perform had they been involved in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

The Reds lost in their first clash of each competition and have to wait until 30th January for their next game, which is against Leicester City.

Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester City have to play in the midweek in the Carabao Cup and then the FA Cup, but Klopp was relieved the Reds can now head off for a break. James Milner picked up a red card in the win over Crystal Palace while Fabinho limped off with an injury.

Jurgen Klopp in training

Klopp claimed he wasn’t sure of the pair playing against the Foxes and added that the break will be used for training (h/t Liverpool Echo):

“I would imagine Milly out now and Fabinho for sure a doubt, it would have been a massive challenge if we should play on Wednesday and Saturday again.

“I’ve no idea how we would have done that. It would be now two days recovery for the boys with the most minutes. The others train and then we start preparation for the Leicester game which is another tough task.

“But it won’t be a real break. We will use it for training.”

Fabinho

Trent Alexander-Arnold also picked up an injury in our win over Brighton and missed the clash against Palace. The Englishman was expected to be out for a month but Klopp added that the youngster could make a quick return.

“Trent is a very quick healer so that gives us at least a little hope. We have to see.”

Liverpool are fortunate that they have 10 days before facing an unpredictable Foxes team. Leicester have beaten Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this season and if we aren’t at our best, there will be some nervy moments similar to the ones we had against Palace.
