Liverpool handed major boost as star forward will not play March international games

Liverpool have been handed a boost in their Premier League aspirations as Mohamed Salah will not travel for the March internationals.

The Egypt FA has confirmed the forward will not face Niger and Nigeria in two AFCON qualifiers, having already made it to the main competition.

The vice-president of the FA claimed Ahmed Hegazi would also not feature for the side while speaking to KingFut (h/t Liverpool Echo):

“Mohamed Salah will not play the Niger game in the AFCON qualifiers or the Nigeria friendly. Ahmed Hegazi will probably also be left out of the squad.”

The report adds that the African side would provide chances to their fringe players, and the two games are scheduled on 22nd and 26th March.

This will come as great news for the Reds as Salah will not have to travel during the international break, and can train at Melwood. The forward hasn’t been scoring at the same rate as last season but still has 16 goals in the Premier League so far.

The 26-year-old looked a little out of sorts in the 1-1 draws against Leicester and West Ham. However, we need the forward to fire on all cylinders if we dream of winning the Premier League.

Our next game is against a plucky Bournemouth side, and it will be important for Salah to score a goal or two on Saturday.
