The Telegraph reports that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been charged by the FA after his comments on referee Kevin Friend.
Friend was in charge of the game against West Ham which ended 1-1. There was controversy regarding Sadio Mane’s opener as James Milner
was offside when he crossed the ball to the Senegal star. The German claimed that Friend’s performance was affected after the assistant allowed Liverpool’s goal to stand. Antonio got the equaliser after Mane scored, and Klopp told Sky Sports (h/t Telegraph
):“As a human being, if I know I have made a big mistake in the first half, I don’t want to open the gap any more. Referees are obviously human beings, and I understand that, but I didn’t during the game because I had no clue that our goal was offside.”
The report adds that Klopp has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3 as he “questioned the integrity of the match referee and/or implied bias.”
The German has until 6 PM on 18 February to respond to the allegations.
This isn’t the first time Klopp has been hauled up by the FA this season. The Merseyside derby saw Divock Origi score a late-second goal and the German ran onto the pitch to celebrate with Alisson.
