For the best part of 70 minutes, it seemed that Manchester City’s quest for a quadruple would end at the unlikeliest of places.
Swansea aren’t doing great in the Championship but were up 2-0 in their FA Cup tie, thanks to goals from Matt Grimes and Bersant Celina.
Pep Guardiola played a strong side and had to make a lot of changes to get City back into their attacking groove.
City were absolutely battering the Swans as they looked for a goal. Bernardo Silva scored a screamer with his left foot in the 69th minute before the referees got into the act.
Raheem Sterling went down softly, with Cameron Carter-Vickers making contact with the ball first but the ref blew for a penalty. Sergio Aguero smacked the spot-kick into the post but it hit the back of the Swansea keeper and went in.
There was more drama to come in the 88th minute as Aguero nodded in the winner from an offside position. VAR was implemented in some of the FA Cup ties but that was not in use at the Liberty Stadium.
City’s quest continues and they should have scored more than the three but Swansea were resolute in defending. This was another game where City had a controversial decision go their way, like the Sterling goal against Watford.
However, some Liverpool fans were happy over the calls and the progress City made in the tournament.
