Naby Keita seemed to be struggling for the Reds before his goal against Southampton a week ago.
The Guinea midfielder finally opened his account for Liverpool with a header and scored his second goal in as many games in the 2-0 win over Porto in the Champions League.
Adam Bate, who is better known as “ghostgoal” on Twitter, wrote a piece on Sky Sports (h/t Liverpool Echo) and provided an incredible stat regarding our midfielders.
There hasn’t been a lot of goals scored from the midfield this season, and Bate claimed Keita had matched the goals scored from open play by any other midfielder this season (h/t Liverpool Echo):
“One week ago, Naby Keita was still waiting for his first Liverpool goal.
“After finding the net in back-to-back wins, he has now scored as many times in open play this season as any other midfielder at the club.”
James Milner has scored six goals in all competitions for the Reds but most of them have been penalties while Georginio Wijnaldum also has a pair in the Premier League this season.
Jordan Henderson also scored his first goal of the season in the 3-1 win over Southampton, but Liverpool can find solace in their full-backs doing their bit.
Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson have 19 assists between them this season in all competitions and provide a lot more attacking output that most of our midfielders.
Robertson and Trent are extremely important to the way we play at the moment, however, getting some goals from the midfield will provide some relief to our attackers.
