“I’m really proud of the boys” – Klopp lavishes praises on Liverpool after consecutive semi-final qualification

Latest Liverpool news: Klopp proud of his team after victory over FC Porto

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp feels his team’s return to the last four of the Champions League is a big statement.

The Reds’ 4-1 victory over FC Porto in Portugal sealed a 6-1 aggregate win and we will meet Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals. Porto had dominated parts of the second leg at Estadio do Dragao but we punished their profligacy in front of goal through strikes from Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Virgil van Dijk.

Ecstatic with the big win and qualification to the last four of the competition for a second year running, Klopp said in his post-match presser: “It is really good news that there is a proper football game between Liverpool and Barcelona.” (h/t The Guardian)

“To be in the semi-final for a second time in a row is a big statement. I’m really proud of the boys, it is brilliant what they did. Doing it in different ways makes it even more special.”

Exciting semi-final tie with Barcelona await

Porto did threaten Liverpool in patches in the second leg but we were in control of the game and took our chances when it came. It was important not to concede in the first 15-20 minutes and we did exactly that which took the sting out of Porto’s attack.

Liverpool players against Watford

Now that the Reds’ have overcome the Portuguese champions, we need to focus on the next game against Cardiff City in the Premier League. The semi-finals against Barcelona promises to be mouthwatering as we will have an uphill task to stop Lionel Messi and co. over the two legs.
