ESPN pundit claims exit-bound £108m world-class star would be a great signing for Liverpool

Latest Liverpool transfer news: Craig Burley believes Antoine Griezmann would be great at Liverpool

Former Chelsea midfielder and ESPN pundit Craig Burley believes Antoine Griezmann would be fantastic for Liverpool.

The Frenchman posted a message on the club’s website regarding his farewell from Atletico Madrid after five glorious years (h/t Daily Star).

The 28-year-old won the World Cup with France last summer, and the Daily Star

reports that Barcelona are the favourites to land him.

The former Real Sociedad winger has a £108m release clause if he is signed before 30 June and Burley believes Griezmann would be great for the Reds (h/t Daily Star):

“I actually think that Liverpool would be a great place for Griezmann to go this summer.”

The former Chelsea star claimed that the Reds are in a great position given their performances in the league and Champions League

.

Burley also believed that the Frenchman would add a lot of depth to the side:

“You talk about how good Griezmann would be linking up with Messi and Barcelona, what about with Liverpool’s front three?

“You look at that and we talk about Liverpool needing that strength in depth, he would add that and Firmino or Salah some games might sit out.”

Not everyone agrees with Burley

Former Liverpool star Steve Nicol did not agree with his fellow ESPN pundit and did not believe it would be great for the side unless a swap deal was in place.

“It would be great yes in a straight swap for Firmino and yes Liverpool need a bigger squad but the balance would not work I don’t think.”

The former Red lauded Roberto Firmino’s role and believed the transfer would mess things up for the Brazilian and the Frenchman.

Griezmann is a world-class footballer and it would be great to have him. However, it is difficult to see where he would start for the current side with Firmino doing so well.

Additionally, paying £108m is a little excessive for the star as the Reds have a fantastic team currently.
