O Jogo (h/t Liverpool Echo) reports that Benfica B midfielder David Tavares impressed Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp recently.
The Reds played against Benfica’s B team at Marbella to prepare for the Champions League final, and the club even released a snippet of how that training helped them out against Tottenham.
The report claims that Klopp praised Tavares’ aggression, physicality and how he adjusted to the changing nature of the game.
The outlet (h/t Liverpool Echo) claimed that the Reds have not bid for the youngster, however, Klopp will be keeping an eye on the midfielder.
Tavares mostly plays as an attacking midfielder, however, he can also do a job on the left-hand side of the attack. Liverpool have several quality youngsters, and we can also do with more talent joining the youth teams.
The Reds and Spurs played the final of the Champions League three weeks after the domestic campaign ended, and the friendly did help us out a bit.
Liverpool nullified most of Tottenham’s attacks except for the final 15 minutes or so, and we were barely threatened in Madrid.
Klopp’s decision to face Benfica B opened the door for us to watch Tavares in close action, and it will be interesting to see if he breaks into the senior team next season.
