Liverpool have the opportunity to win another European trophy just a few days after the season starts.
The Reds face Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup final on 14th August in Istanbul. Liverpool won the Champions League while the Blues picked up the Europa League this season.
Both clubs defeated English opposition to win trophies, and with the final in Istanbul, memories of 2005’s Champions League final should be rushing back for Liverpool fans.
The Vodafone Park has a capacity of 38,000, but the Evening Standard reports that each finalist will be provided just 5,257 tickets for the showpiece event.
This comes as a bit of a surprise after UEFA declared that 78% of the tickets for the final would be available to supporters of the teams and the general public, according to the Standard.
However, most of the tickets seem to be reserved for sale to neutral fans via UEFA’s channels (h/t Standard
).Liverpool supporters dealt with a similar issue for the Champions League final.
The report adds that the Reds were handed just 16,600 tickets for the clash against Spurs while Chelsea were given 5,800 tickets for the Europa League final against Arsenal.
The Reds will have a couple of days to prepare for the final as we start the Premier League campaign on 9th August while Chelsea face Manchester United a couple of days later.
Liverpool have won the title thrice and secured the cup in 2005 as we beat CSKA Moscow.
