Bruno Fernandes had a great season for Sporting Lisbon, racking up 20 league goals and providing 13 assists.
The 24-year-old attacking midfielder is worth close to €70m (h/t Express) and has four years left on his current deal.
However, ESPN (h/t Express) claims that Liverpool have distanced themselves from moving for the Portugal international.
The report adds that Manchester United are best-placed to sign Fernandes, with Tottenham and Manchester City also backing out of the race.
The 24-year-old can play out wide as a winger and would provide a lot of versatility to any club he joins.
Liverpool were linked with the midfielder, and one player’s exit had led to speculation of Fernandes joining the club.
Earlier in the week, Liverpool sold Portuguese starlet Rafa Camacho to Sporting Lisbon.
The Reds moved quickly to squash any rumours of this deal being used to sign Fernandes for the upcoming season (h/t Mirror).
The report added that the Reds were not interested in Fernandes, and he wasn’t the right kind of player for Jurgen Klopp. Liverpool have been busy in the summer, with one player coming in. Sepp van den Berg completed his move from PEC Zwolle a few days back.
The centre-back was a first-teamer for PEC, and it will be interesting to see his development at Anfield in the coming seasons.
