Italian giants target Liverpool star as first-choice but want to lower his wages

Latest Liverpool transfer news: AC Milan want to reduce Dejan Lovren’s wages as talks continue

Tuttosport (h/t Calciomercato) reports that AC Milan have been in continuous talks for Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren.

The report claims that Lovren is the first choice for the Serie A giants as they look to reinforce their defence.

The 30-year-old didn’t play too many games last season due to the form of Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.

The Croatian returned from the World Cup with an injury and lost his place to Gomez. When the English defender suffered a fracture, it was Matip who excelled alongside Virgil van Dijk.

The Italian report claims that Milan management wants to reduce Liverpool’s asking price. They also want Lovren’s wages to come down as he earns more with the Reds than what the Serie A club would like to spend.

Liverpool planning for season with Lovren

The 30-year-old might not start next season as the first-choice alongside Van Dijk, but he is still in our plans.

The Liverpool Echo recently reported that the Reds don’t want to sell Lovren ahead of the new season, and the Croatian hasn’t indicated that he wants to leave Anfield.

Lovren is one of the most experienced players we have in the team, and we need quality defenders in the side.

The Reds were stretched a bit last season with injuries and have signed 17-year-old defender Sepp van den Berg in the summer.
