Jurgen Klopp confirmed that star pair Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri was already training with Liverpool.
The pair was carrying injuries coming into pre-season, with Keita also involved in the Africa Cup of Nations.
This would be a minor boost for the Reds as they play Lyon in our next pre-season friendly game, and Klopp expects them to be part of the Evian camp (h/t LiverpoolFC.com
):“Shaqiri and Keita as well, they already trained one session with us.
“They are not here but they will come tomorrow because they train today. They will come tomorrow and should hopefully be a step further.”
The manager also claimed that it was great to see the players return, with only Mane yet to come back.
“Hopefully they can play a couple of minutes on Wednesday; five of six [aside from Sadio Mane] back, which is a good number.”
Mohamed Salah, Alisson and Roberto Firmino are expected to join the team today, and it will be interesting to see if they get some minutes against Lyon.
The Reds haven’t had great results in pre-season, with no wins in their last four games. Napoli defeated us recently, and we played with nearly all our first-team players.
Hopefully, this changes when we face Manchester City in the Community Shield on Sunday.
Keita and Shaqiri didn’t play too many games last season but the pair needs to step up.
The duo had injury problems in the previous campaign, and needs to avoid it this time around.
Liverpool need the pair to be fit for the majority of the season, and it will be interesting to see how they perform in the upcoming campaign.
