Jurgen Klopp is unhappy with Liverpool’s fixture list as the season is less than a week away.
The Reds face Norwich City on the opening day of the Premier League season.
Klopp also takes Liverpool to Istanbul for the UEFA Super Cup clash against Chelsea on 14th August and the Reds participate in the Club World Cup in December.
The German wasn’t sure why the Reds were playing early next weekend, with the rival clubs in action only on Sunday.
Klopp also wanted to play on a Sunday and was quoted by the Mirror as saying:
“I would much prefer to have had the Sunday game because that would have given us two more days of preparation.
“We had the last game in the Champions League Final on June 1 and now the first game of the new Premier League season against Norwich.
“That doesn’t sound it’s exactly like it should be to me. Who can have this idea? It’s crazy.”
The German also lamented that the Champions League final against Tottenham was three weeks after the end of the Premier League season.
Further, international tournaments in the summer have seen the late return of several stars.
Alisson, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah joined the side earlier this week while Sadio Mane is expected to return before the Premier League clash.
Playing in seven competitions this season would put a strain on the team, and the Reds have only made a couple of signings this summer.
The Reds need to be careful with the first-teamers ahead of a long and gruelling campaign and hopefully, the players avoid major injuries.
Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Adam Lallana all faced lengthy spells out with injuries in the previous campaign, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain only returned to fitness towards the end of the season.
