“It was a minor muscle injury” – Relief as Klopp confirms the availability of key midfield star for Norwich game

Latest Liverpool news: Klopp hopeful that Milner will be fit for Norwich clash

Liverpool narrowly missed out on the Community Shield to Manchester City on Sunday.

The Reds were beaten on penalties but had enough chances to win the clash in normal time.

Jurgen Klopp was allowed to make six substitutions in the game, and the German used all his substitutes as the Reds cranked up the pressure in the second half.

Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain did a good job coming off the bench, however, there was one big name missing from the teamsheet.

James Milner could not play in the game against City, with the club confirming the Englishman had a minor muscle injury.

The Reds open their Premier League campaign on Friday against Norwich, and the manager was optimistic of the veteran regaining fitness ahead of the game.

The German was asked about Milner’s availability for the clash against Norwich and replied (h/t LiverpoolFC.com):

“I would say yes.

“It was a minor muscle injury. I would say he can probably train tomorrow, although I am not 100 per cent sure.

“For today it did not work out, but I think by at least Tuesday he can train.”

Milner could have a huge role to play this season

The Englishman is one of the most experienced players in the Premier League and hopefully, he returns to fitness by Friday.

James Milner

The former Manchester City and Leeds United star has done a great job in the midfield under Klopp and was ever-present in our Champions League starting XI last season.

The 33-year-old is one of the most consistent players in the Liverpool team and he can also do a job as a full-back.

The Reds don’t have a backup for Andy Robertson at the moment, and Milner spent one season as our first-choice left-back before the Scot’s

arrival.
