Jurgen Klopp’s decision after the Community Shield defeat could be great for Liverpool

Latest Liverpool news: Klopp made players watch City get presented with Community Shield

The Community Shield might have been won by Manchester City but Liverpool gave them a run for their money on Sunday.

Pep Guardiola’s men won the title via penalties, however, Liverpool had several chances to win the game in normal time.

Raheem Sterling gave City a deserved lead in the first half but the Reds came out as a different team after half-time.

Mohamed Salah had several quality chances to win the game but was denied by some great goalkeeping and an acrobatic goal-line clearance from Kyle Walker.

Georginio Wijnaldum was the only player to see his spot-kick saved in the shootout and the City players celebrated another trophy win under Guardiola.

James Pearce was present at the game and tweeted that Klopp ensured his team stayed behind to watch the presentation.

Great move by Klopp ahead of the season

Although City have spent big in landing Rodri and some other stars, Liverpool have only signed a couple of teenagers. However, the Reds played exceptionally well in the second half and on another day, would have won the game by two or three goals.

Losing the Community Shield on penalties isn’t a big deal, however, Klopp’s move should be lauded ahead of the new season.

City and Liverpool are the two best teams in the country, and it is likely that they will challenge for the Premier League title and other trophies next season.

The Cityzens swept away with the domestic honours last season and this loss should serve as motivation for the season ahead. Even without any new signings, Liverpool looked great and we still have Sadio Mane to return to action.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita looked good in patches on Sunday, and they need to remain fit for the rest of the campaign.

City might have landed the first blow by winning the Shield but there are bigger prizes on offer over the next nine months.
