Liverpool take a step towards the future by launching their second academy in Africa

Latest Liverpool news: Reds open new academy in Mauritius

Liverpool have opened a new academy in Mauritius, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The Reds already have one international academy in Africa, which was opened in Egypt, and this one was opened by legendary keeper Bruce Grobbelaar, Liverpool’s VP of International Academies Dan White and Mauritius Prime Minister, Pravind Jugnauth.

While speaking to the BBC, White claimed that he hoped to tap into the football talent from the country and help youngsters develop into quality players (h/t Liverpool Echo):

“There is a hugely passionate fan base in Mauritius and we are confident that this project will be a positive development for football in Mauritius.

“We look forward to working with our partners here to make sure it is a success. We want to bring authentic LFC coaching to young fans around the world.”

The report adds that the Reds are actively recruiting coaches and staff for their latest academy, and programmes will start from next month.

Spreading Liverpool across the globe

It makes sense to tap into emerging markets and try to grab hold of quality players from other countries too.

The Reds are one of the biggest brands across the world and they have a huge following. It will be interesting to see if any youngsters impress in the new academy, but there is a long way to go before we find the next Trent Alexander-Arnold

or Steven Gerrard.

Liverpool always seem to have one academy player in their senior side, and we seem to have a great bunch of youngsters coming through the ranks at Anfield.
