Liverpool expected to hand two youngsters their senior debut against MK Dons

Rhian Brewster, Caoimhin Kelleher and Naby Keita expected to face MK Dons

Liverpool are set to field a much-changed starting XI against MK Dons tonight.

The Reds won their last game against Chelsea 2-1 and have a few players out with injuries.

The Carabao Cup clash is the perfect chance to hand some of our youngsters a chance, and Pep Lijnders confirmed that Naby Keita is in line to feature tonight.

The Guinea international hasn’t played for us since the Community Shield loss to Manchester City. Keita has had his injury problems since joining from RB Leipzig,

Lijnders spoke ahead of the game and raved about Keita’s quality (h/t Liverpool Echo):

“Yes (he could return on Wednesday). I will not give the team but he is in a really good way.

“What a boy! He makes our build-up play completely different; he creates unpredictability how the ball moves forward.”

The assistant manager added that Keita was an “important player” and hoped that the midfielder is available regularly after this tie.

Youngsters in line to start

Caoimhin Kelleher is set to feature for the Reds against MK Dons. The youngster missed a lot of the pre-season after picking up an injury.

Rhian Brewster is also in line for his senior debut after impressing in pre-season. Lijnders confirmed that the two were possible starters and wanted to see how they do:

“Rhian is in contention. He’s waiting already for the time!”

The assistant manager added that Kelleher was unlucky to have picked up the injury in pre-season.

Liverpool were knocked out by Chelsea in the same stage of the competition last season, and it will be interesting to see how we perform on Wednesday.

The younger players will have an opportunity to impress the coaches and could open a doorway into the first-team.
