James Pearce provided an update on the issue surrounding Liverpool’s kit manufacturers for the next season.
The Athletic journalist reported that New Balance were to start legal proceedings over a ‘matching clause’ after Nike offered the Reds a huge deal.
Pearce added that Liverpool don’t believe the matching clause is correct, given Nike’s greater global distribution network.
The journalist further claimed that the matter would be looked into by the lawyers. However, Nike aren’t willing to give up on the deal and are keen to work with Liverpool, according to the Pearce:
“Nike aren’t involved in the legal battle. They are simply waiting for it to be resolved. They won’t walk away. They want to work with LFC and LFC want to work with them.”
New Balance have done a great job with the kits in recent years, however, there are distribution problems, with several countries not having stores of the sportswear giants.
Nike has a great distribution network and would allow fans from most countries to get their hands on the Liverpool merchandise.
New Balance did a good job for us when we were growing under Jurgen Klopp and it is time for a change.
The Reds are one of the biggest brands in football, thanks to our performances on and off the field, and it will be interesting to see how things develop on this front.
